Another Murrell Joins the Jets
The Jets welcomed another Murrell into their “family” nowadays. His name is Marques Murrell, the younger brother of former Jets RB Adrian Murrell.
Wasn’t it just yesterday that I was covering Adrian, a pretty good back in his day? citizens forget that Adrian produced back-to-back, 1,000-yard seasons in 1996 and 1997. In ‘96, he rushed for 1,249 yards on a 1-15 team, which is a rather amazing accomplishment. (If the Jets run the table, Marques will be the moment Murrell to experience 1-15.)
Bill Parcells had every intention of sticking with Adrian in ‘98, but the opportunity to acquire Curtis Martin arised out of the blue and well, the rest is history. Adrian was traded to the Cardinals. He’s now retired, living in the Charlotte area.
besides, Marques was signed off the Eagles’ practice squad, where he had been since the end of the preseason. He caught the Jets’ eye in the preseason finale at Philadelphia, and they kept him on a short list. A roster spot opened that week when they cut S Rashad Washington.
Murrell was a defensive end for the Eagles, but he’ll be used as an external linebacker in the Jets’ 3-4 system. He said Adrian, 14 years

There was a definite getaway-day feel in the locker room. As players dressed for practice, they were talking about their plans for the four-day, bye-week respite. Many of them were planning to head out of town. Laveranues Coles, in fact, was impersonating a flight attendant, saying: Please put your seats and tray tables in the locked and upright position. Gee, wonder whether he was headed to the airport after practice.
Unlike Cannizzaro from the Post, who once flew to Portugal for a bye-week break, I don’t have any exotic plans. I’m going to stay home and do some self-scouting, re-reading stories and trying to figure out ways to write better by the final seven games.
