Because temperatures are expected to be in the 90s today and tomorrow, the city is opening its cooling centers ( find them here ; here are some tips on beating the heat ). Last week, during the heat wave , the NY Times’ Ariel Kaminer visited one of the centers, which seem to be populated by regulars and not many people just looking for an air-conditioned sanctuary. And it’s questionable whether those most in need—the poor, disabled and elderly—can get to them easily.
