As we all know, today is National Waffle Day ! The kind of holiday that only Homer J. Simpson would celebrate—well, him and the Wafels & Dinges set. Today the Belgian waffle truck celebrated by giving out free waffles to those who handed over a waffle-inspired drawing (they’ll be at 52nd and Lexington until 4:30 , then you’re left with less appetizing options ). They also hosted a pageant earlier, and the winners were crowned and gifted with a year in free Wafels! The king is 51-year-old retired poet Jonathan Leiter (hailing from Staten Island), and his queen is 23-year-old Jasmine Hashi of Brooklyn. Congrats to the new waffle royalty—but on Waffle Day, everyone’s a winner… or something.
