Last Night’s Action: The Rangers Win The War
![]()
- Rangers 5 Devils 3: that was an epic clash to end the series. After the Devils jumped out to a 1-0 lead, the Rangers scored the next four goals, taking control of the game and main 4-1 with about fifteen minutes left in the moment period. But the Devils stormed back with two goals in the moment period, one off another lucky bounce and the game went into the third with the Rangers handing to a 4-3 lead. And, the Devils would have completed their comeback and probably won the game whether not for the brilliance of Henrik Lundqvist. Lundqvist made huge save after huge save, note more so than at 7:08 in the third period when John Madden was awarded a penalty shot and Lundqvist absolutely stoned him.
Fittingly Ryan Callahan’s incredible tough work and Brandon Dubinsky’s empty-netter capper off the series win. Martin Brodeur refused to shake Sean Avery’s hand after the game prompting Avery to refer to him as “fatso”. Those two
will be fun to watch next year, but the Rangers will now prepare for their next series against an undetermined opponent. - Mets 6 Phillies 4: A pretty good pitchers’ duel turned into a wild eighth inning for both teams, but the Mets prevailed. David Wright was 4-for-4 with 2 RBI’s in the win.
- Orioles 8 Yankees 2: It wasn’t all his fault, but Phil Hughes is still not ready for primetime. “Helped” by his defense, Hughes ended up surrendering five runs in five plus innings and the Yankees dropped the opener of their weekend series
