Last Night’s Action: Trifecta of Losses

  • Timberwolves 114, Knicks 93: More losses = more balls in NBA Draft lotto. That may be the best gift Isiah Thomas can give the Knicks before that season is by (a resignation would probably be better). In a match-up featuring two of the NBA’s worst teams, the Knicks managed to come absent as the loser, dropping their 11th of 12 games. Shockingly, at 19-50, the Knicks haven’t been eliminated from playoff contention in the Eastern Conference. The Knicks started a rag-tag bunch, with Jamal Crawford as the only “normal” starter in the bunch. Only four teams stand within the Knicks and the worst record in the NBA - the T-Wolves, Grizzlies, Sonics, and Heat.
  • Penguins 7, Devils 1: In the battle for the Atlantic Division lead, the Penguins took a two-point lead after handing the Devils their third loss in a row. The game was closer than the final score belies - the two teams were tied after one period and the Penguins only took the lead late in the
moment period. Things got ugly in the third when Pittsburgh scored 5 goals. Martin Brodeur was removed after allowing his 4th goal (on 19 shots), but Kevin Weekes actually fared worse as Brodeur’s replacement, allowing 3 goals on 9 shots. The two teams play each other on Tuesday for the final day in the regular season.
  • 76ers 91, Nets 87: whether the Nets want to produce the playoffs, they need to play better than they did against the Sixers. Currently 1.5 games behind Atlanta for the 8th playoff spot (and two in the loss column), the Nets loss was the first of the season to the Sixers.
