Brian Cashman’s Alleged Stalker’s History Of "Fake Pregnancies, Fake Abortions"

The bizarre case of the woman accused of stalking Yankees GM Brian Cashman exploded into the tabloids last week and yesterday, the Daily News revealed that Louise Neathway (sometimes referred to as Louise Meanwell) claimed she was pregnant with the married Cashman’s baby and had an abortion. Now the News’ rival gets word from Neathway’s mom about her apparent bluff. [ more › ]

Video: Ecstatic Dad Wins $7,500 Bet On Giants, Taunts IRS

An area Giants fan won some money after his beloved “G-men” won the Super Bowl yesterday, and his dignified celebration was captured on video and posted on YouTube. Then BuzzFeed picked it up , and here we are. (Look, we don’t make the rules.) To be sure, it is pretty “LOL” to watch this grown man completely “OMG” lose his shit like a tween going “WTF?” outside a Ke$ha concert. But it’s even LOLer when his wife appears to warn his kids not to post the video on YouTube. In response, the exultant winner orders his son to post it on “IRS YouTube.” [ more › ]

CNN’s Roland Martin Finds Beckham Homoerotic, GLAAD Mad

Though we found last night’s Super Bowl ads pretty tame , at least one of them has managed to cause a bit of controversy . Damn you, David Beckham for causing heterosexual men to question their sexuality! Because of Mr. Posh Spice’s H&M ad, GLAAD is now calling on CNN to fire commentator Roland Martin. [ more › ]

Rip Out A Magazine Page For Robert Cohen, Hudson News Founder

Once upon a time we used to spend an inordinate amount of time after school sitting on the floor of the Hudson News on Broadway and Eighth Street reading any and every magazine we could grab before buying one (maybe) and heading home. That adolescent magazine habit would have been much harder for us to foster had Hudson News and its ilk not existed, and for that reason we mourn Robert B. Cohen , the former president of that chain who helped change the way travelers buy magazines. Cohen died last week at the age of 86. [ more › ]

Sunny And Mild Weather For The Giants’ Ticker Tape Parade

When do you think the latest date is that really cold weather can strike New York? That depends on how you define “really cold” but this graph of every January through March daily temperature since 1971 has the answer. The squiggly line is the mean and that bottomed out a couple weeks ago at 29 degrees. Following the January Thaw, the curve reaches another nadir on February 5th before beginning a slow increase. We should dutifully point out that the thaw, like all the day-to-day squiggles in the line, is not statistically significant -just look at that variability. From a climate perspective there is still a chance of cold weather, but the odds are against us having a brutally cold week like what happened in 1979. [ more › ]

Your F Train Was Delayed This Morning By A Woman In Labor

We’ve received a report that a Manhattan-bound F train was delayed this morning because a woman was going into labor, and the MTA has confirmed it. The woman was “removed by EMS from Southbound F Train at 21st-Queensbridge,” and the delay was from 8:58 a.m. until 9:21 a.m. This is officially a trend! Will the next issue of Brooklyn Magazine skewer the designer afghans you can spread out on train benches for when little Dylan greets the world? [ more › ]

Studio 54 Adds A Cabaret, With Food Help From Danny Meyer

What good is sitting alone in your room? Come hear the music play! Though The Algonquin Hotel’s Oak Room isn’t coming back , a new cabaret is coming to fill its void—and this one has a real pedigree. Come June, the 160-seat 54 Below will open its doors (you guessed it) just below the storied Studio 54 space in Midtown.
