Election 2013: Speaker Quinn’s In The (Public) Money!

When it comes to elections most people are focused on the biggie this November. But not New York City pols! They’re already focused on next November when Gracie Mansion, long left vacant by Mike Bloomberg, is once again up for grabs. Mediocre Royale: Bloomberg And Christie Weigh In On Jets/Giants Battle

After a week of trash talking , the underperforming Jets and Giants are gearing up for Saturday’s thoroughly mediocre “battle of NYC.” Both teams still have a chance to make the playoffs, but the loser of tomorrow’s game may be done for the season. We’re just relieved one NY team can win this week, after last week’s twin slaughters. And while Mayor Bloomberg tried his best to stay out of the inter-city rivalry, NJ Gov. Chris Christie made no secret of who he is rooting for: “J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets. Absolutely. Rex and the boys win by seven.” [ more › ]

Grinch Mugger Stopped By Tire-Slashing Sanitation Worker

Ready for another story about people doing good around the holidays? Last night a Department of Sanitation worker doing shopping at the Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus heard a woman screaming as she was being mugged. He was unable to catch up with the crooks, but he was able to pull out his pocket knife and stab it into the crook’s car tire, allowing cops to quickly catch him and his accomplice. [ more › ]

You Now Have Until March To Visit Mayor Bloomberg’s Muppet At The Museum Of Moving Image

The Museum of Moving Image has decided to extend its amazing Jim Henson’s Fantastic World exhibit (as Kermit would say, ” Yaaaaaay! “). We checked it out earlier this year and highly recommend visiting before it closes on March 4th (originally it was meant to shut down on January 16th). According to Arts Beat it “has drawn nearly 90,000 visitors since its opening on July 16th… and is expected to have more than 100,000 visitors by the time it closes.” [ more › ]

And the winner of New York City’s high-tech campus sweepstakes appears to be… Cornell , by $350 million dollars . Bloomberg Claims NYPD Didn’t Prevent Press From Reporting On Occupy Wall Street Raid

It seems Mayor Bloomberg still gets a bit pissy if you question him about his perfect handling of Occupy Wall Street : during his weekly radio appearance this morning, Bloomberg was asked about the November raid on Zuccotti Park , during which several reporters were arrested and others were forcibly removed from the park. Bloomberg insisted that there was no media blackout during the early morning raid: “We didn’t keep anybody from reporting, you just had to stand to the side. You don’t have a right as a press person to stand in the way just in the interest of getting the story…the police [showed] amazing restraint. This is the greatest police department in the world. The number of times police fire their weapons here is so much less than any other police department.” [ more › ]
