Danny Evins, the lightning-rod founder of the down-home restaurant chain Cracker Barrel, died on Sunday of bladder cancer at age 76 . While his chicken and dumplings will live on in Interstate rest stops across the country, here in New York City, he might be best remembered for some less savory offerings. [ more › ]

Well, it turns out people are still smuggling bushmeat —you know, tropical wild game like MONKEYS and BATS—into the country through JFK, and guess what? It’s still dangerous to eat! Because it can spread diseases! And even if they’re not deadly right now, they might be soon! Because it’s happened before, with bushmeat and AIDS! Everybody freak out! [ more › ]

By now you’ve probably seen the video of U.S. Marines urinatin g on dead bodies in Afghanistan. (In case you missed it, we embedded it below.) Did you know that before this week, the FBI didn’t recognize that men could be raped? Since 1927, rape has been defined by the FBI as the “carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will.” But thanks to a new provision, that definition is finally being updated. “Rape is a devastating crime and we can’t solve it unless we know the full extent of it,” said Vice President Joe Biden, who worked closely with advocates on the issue. “This long-awaited change to the definition of rape is a victory for women and men across the country whose suffering has gone unaccounted for over 80 years.” [ more › ]
