Don’t let that “A” grade from the Health Department fool you; according to MTA bus driver Lajzer Grynsztajn, there’s bad chicken being served at that JFK Fried Chicken outlet in Sunset Park. Grynsztajn, an MTA bus driver, has filed a lawsuit against the restaurant, alleging that a 2-inch wire coil got lodged in his throat as he ate some chicken breast at the establishment. “I felt a sharp pain, like I was choking,” he tells the Daily News . “I thought I was choking on a bone.” He says he soon started coughing up blood, and had to go to the hospital to have it removed. JFK’s manager, of course, thinks lawsuit smells fowl. [ more › ]

Is Someone Stealing "Ghost Bike" Memorials And Selling Them On Craigslist?

A tipster spotted this “for sale” post (see below) on Craigslist, from someone claiming to have removed over two dozen white bikes that were locked up around town. The ad, which offers 30 of the bikes for $3,200, does not explicitly acknowledge that these bikes are memorials to cyclists killed in accidents. So it seems whoever posted it is pretending to be astonishingly oblivious—most of the memorials have a small plaque with the name of the biker who was killed, so it’s hard to imagine anyone not understanding their purpose. On the other hand, the ad could be some sort of trolling fake Craigslist post meant to outrage the cyclist community. Either way, it’s pretty despicable. [ more › ]

Last week we were aghast at how the New York Times and Big Soda combined to heap outrage on the Health Department’s photoshopped ad campaign against diabetes. You’d have thought Mayor Bloomberg personally fed this actor into the woodchipper! Now, the Times has spoken with the man who posed for the picture, Cleo Berry, who was apparently “stunned” when he saw his image in the ad for the first time on Friday. “I was beyond shocked. I cried at my computer screen for, like, a minute.” More than the crocodile tears he shed for this sandwich ad in which he gets viciously beaten? That is what happened, isn’t it? [ more › ]

It has been revealed that the New York City Health Department photoshopped an overweight man’s leg out of an ad tying larger portion sizes to Type 2 diabetes and limb amputations. We received a noble press release from the good folks at the American Beverage Association blasting the lying liars at the DOH: “This is another example of the ‘What can we get away with?’ approach that shapes these taxpayer-funded ad campaign.” Or is it a reasonable tactic against the larded Leviathans and their relentless lobbyists?
