A week after 35 pounds of coke was delivered (presumably mistakenly) to the United Nations, the DEA has started coming down on an allegedly mob-connected smuggling ring that used doormen in posh buildings to sign for their illicit deliveries. “It’s still an ongoing investigation—we’re still looking into it,” a DEA agent told the Post. A Bronx elementary school teacher is suing the city after the school’s principal allegedly became enamored with her, rubbing up against her, winking at her and hugging her. According to the lawsuit obtained by the Post, Kristin Erat, Grant Avenue Elementary School’s principal since 2009, kept a photo of Barbara Woods in her desk, and once “told Woods that [she] cannot stop thinking about” her. When Woods informed Erat that she was straight, Erat became “upset, surprised, and disappointed.” [ more › ]

Actor Commits Suicide After Euthanizing Beloved Dog

An Upper West Side soap opera actor committed suicide this week— according to the Post , he wrote in his suicide note that he was wracked with grief over euthanizing his beloved pet dog Rocco. Nick Santino euthanized Rocco this past Tuesday, on Santino’s 47th birthday, under pressure from his apartment condo to get rid of the dog. “Today I betrayed my best friend and put down my best friend,” Santino wrote in a suicide note, according to close friend Stuart Sarnoff. “Rocco trusted me and I failed him. He didn’t deserve this.” [ more › ]

Greg Kelly’s Rape Accuser Has Family Ties To NYPD, Too

This week, Greg Kelly, son of NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly and co-host of “Good Day New York,” was accused of—but not charged with—raping an unidentified young woman in her Manhattan office. It’s now been revealed that the rape accuser, a 30-year-old law firm employee who the Post describes as “an aspiring model and actress,” also has family ties to the NYPD— the Post reports that her brother is a crime-scene investigator for the NYPD who previously worked in the Internal Affairs Bureau. And it seems she was inspired to report the alleged rape because of Kelly’s famous dad encouraging New Yorkers to come forward to report all crimes: “Her boyfriend was telling her, ‘You see, even his father is telling people to report crime,’” a source told DNAinfo. A Bushwick high school art teacher was fired for allegedly sleeping with a student and plying multiple students with pot and booze off campus. According to the Post , Bushwick Community HS art teacher Giovanna Vasconez was found to have had sex with one student, and “fooled around” with another. Has Mayor Bloomberg just started trolling everyone lately? Those pithy Newt Gingrich comments , that turtle-jiggling State Of The City video ? Does he even care whether everyone loves him still ? During his snow press conference yesterday, Bloomberg inexplicably took the opportunity to show off the local cheese curds and Titletown’s Sno-Cap root beer he plundered from Green Bay. And now he’s set his sights on city Republicans, telling the Post that he’s pretty sure his sucessor will be a Democrat: “ It’s really hard to see the Democratic primary next year not being the real election.” [ more › ]

Today is ” Blue Monday ,” which was invented back in 2005 as part of a marketing campaign for a travel company, by psychologist Cliff Arnall. At the time, he declared the third Monday in January to be the most depressing day of the entire year. Why? Well there’s the freezing cold temperatures, your failed New Year’s resolutions, your post-holiday debt, and basically everything is just terrible. He’s explained in the past that the “low” is also caused by a drop in your motivation and “the hibernation effect”—in other words, we’re eating and sleeping more, and basically just feeling lethargic.
