Slain Cyclist’s Mother To Testify At City Council Hearing On NYPD Crash Investigations

Next Wednesday the City Council will hold hearings on the NYPD’s handling of accident investigations, with a special focus on crashes involving cyclists and pedestrians. Among those expected to speak is the mother of Mathieu Lefevre , a cyclist who was killed by a flatbed truck driver one night in Williamsburg last October. The Lefevre family had to sue the NYPD to get basic information about the investigation and find out why the driver was not charged with a hit-and-run. Now Lefevre’s mother Erika is expected to make the trip from her home in Canada to demand accountability from the NYPD. [ more › ]

Calvin Ogletree, 25, brother of Cowboys receiver Kevin Ogletree, was shot in front of the luxury car rental shop he opened last summer in St. Albans. “I heard one or two pops,” a witness who works nearby told the News. “I didn’t know if it was gunshots. The victim, Marion Salmon Hedges, a real estate broker and active volunteer at numerous organizations, had come to the East Harlem shopping complex to buy Halloween candy for needy children. Police are investigating a series of firebombings in Queens late last night as possible bias crimes. Between 8 p.m. and 10:15, four locations within two miles of each other in Jamaica, Queens were hit by Molotov cocktails. One of the locations was a private residence on 107th Avenue that caught fire after the burning bottles struck it, and it took more than 60 firefighters to bring it under control, the Times reports .
