Architectural Craziness: Renderings vs. Reality at Union Square’s Sukkah City
Architectural Craziness: Renderings vs. Reality at Union Square’s Sukkah City

Click the image above to view the full photogallery. Pop-up shops meet architecture meet Judaic ritual at Sukkah City , the Union Square exhibition that opened to public viewing yesterday and lasts until sundown tonight. The 12 sukkahs, temporary shelters built to observe the Jewish festival of Sukkot, were selected from over 600 entries by a panel of judges that included architects Thom Mayne and Michael Arad and critic Paul Goldberger. We’ve shared the concepts behind the sukkahs and even trekked out to Gowanus to get a preview , but how do the finished products stack up to their visions? Check out the gallery above for a look at each sukkah as well as its rendering . One winner will be on display in Union Square through October 2, chosen by online popular vote . The sukkahs are also being auctioned for charity by Housing Works , but they’ll cost a lot of bar mitzvah money. Minimum opening bids are $5,000. · Sukkah City [Official Site] · Sukkah City coverage [Curbed]

Feuds: A new-to-New York hotel architect is…
Feuds: A new-to-New York hotel architect is…

A new-to-New York hotel architect is suing her real estate brokers, alleging that they got her fired, broke into her apartment, and stole her furniture and dog . The architect says she was a victim of identity theft and her bank account was frozen, which is why her first rent check bounced. But one of the brokers “grew incensed” at the lack of payment, perhaps because her father owned the apartment the architect was subletting—a twist that is only the tip of the crazy iceberg in this lawsuit.
