Upper East Siders who enjoy “sleeping” and “resisting the urge to collapse into a weeping ball” may get some relief: the MTA’s Capital Construction president told CB8 on Thursday that the blasting of the Second Avenue subway should cease by the end of the year. While those who live around 72nd Street may be able to retire their earplugs by New Year’s Eve, the Post reports that blasting work at the site of the new station will begin on 86th street in April, and could last through 2013. NYC Street Photographer’s 1950s Photos Found, Headed To Queens Museum Of Art

Starting February 5th and running through May 20th, the Queens Museum of Art will be showing off the work of photographer Frank Oscar Larson , who documented the streets of New York in the 1950s. They’re in possession of “several thousand historic negatives hidden from sight for 55 years,” and will bring 65 of them in print form to their “1950s New York Street Stories” installation. Larson was a Queens banker who had a “lifelong passion for photography” and yielded a tremendous images of everyday life in 1950s New York.   [ more › ]

Video: 26 Reportedly Arrested At Occupy Wall Street Foreclosure Auction Blockade

As Yogi Berra might say, it’s deja vu all over again: over 25 Occupy Wall Street protesters have been arrested today at a foreclosure auction protest in Brooklyn this afternoon. According to John Knefel, over 80 people crammed into Brooklyn Supreme Court to sing songs and blockade the foreclosure sales, and it seemingly worked: “4 cops just said the auction was cancelled. #ows now being forced to leave. could it be a ruse? #blockade.” Check out a video of protesters singing in the courthouse here, and below. Police are investigating the death of a one-year-old boy who was found unconscious in his Bronx home yesterday. Baby Richard Flood was discovered unresponsive by his mother’s boyfriend in the living room floor of a third-floor apartment where he lived on East 232nd Street at 11:25 a.m. Wednesday. Source told NBC that the boy had a cast on his leg from a broken leg, bruises on his face, and cigarette burns on his arms. [ more › ]

Owner Of Punto Bianco, DUMBO’s Latest Lunch Spot, Says He Could Be Mayor

              Options for a midday meal in under the Manhattan Bridge are limited, but Punto Bianco at the corner of Jay and John Streets in DUMBO now offers espresso and Mediterranean fare with an emphasis on fresh, healthy ingredients. “I’ve had my eye on this space for 15 years,” says owner George Lati of the voluminous café with walls of windows and a modern flair. “We opened up just before the holidays which was crazy and my wife was so excited she was just giving everything away for free. ‘Let the people eat,’ she’d say. She was in heaven!” Lati describes his wife Shela as the engine that keeps the café running. And with a little help from their five children, Punto Bianco is seems to have found its footing.
