Nothing whets a buyer’s appetite for pricey real estate more than a classic film, particularly one featuring Audrey Hepburn. Or so one believes after flipping through many an NYC listing with a black-and-white film on the TV. Curbed NY rounds them up. [Curbed NY]

Video: Revisiting Fiorucci’s Heyday As "The Daytime Studio 54"

Fiorucci, a fashion label founded by Elio Fiorucci in 1967, became popular amongst New Yorkers (and trendsetters like Madonna and Andy Warhol) in the 1970s and early 1980s, after the East 59th Street store opened (right next to those squares at Bloomingdale’s). The store was filled with glitter, gold, lamé, and skin tight jeans—in 1977, a year after the New York flagship opened, NY Mag ran a lengthy piece on the scene, noting, “All it took this year to achieve instant chic, day or night, at the slickest New York party or the trashiest, was a pair of $110 gold cowboy boots from Fiorucci.” [ more › ]

How Much Does A White House Visit Cost? $100K Doesn’t Hurt

The Obama campaign likes to tout that much of their war chest comes from small donors, people who give less than $250. But $250 only wins you the chance to win an awkward dinner with the president, and the joy of cleaning out your inbox every few hours. Want a roughly 75% of meeting the man in the White House? That’ll be $100,000. No word on how much it’d cost to share a cigarette with the president. [ more › ]

Mayonnaise Store FINALLY Opens In Brooklyn

A store selling only artisanal flavored mayonnaise opened on Sunday in the Prospect Heights section of Brooklyn, adding another notch to the borough’s bedpost of pretentiousness. It’s called Empire Mayonnaise, it’s not a joke (in fact, we knew it was coming ), and inside you’ll find flavored mayos like White Truffle, Black Garlic, Lime Pickle, Bacon, Saffron, Preserved Lemon, and Vadouvan (a French curry masala). As we noted last year, the people behind the cans of mayo are chef Sam Mason and his business partner and designer Elizabeth Valleau, who slung the stuff over at the Smorgasburg last summer. Today, the funeral of grandmother Clara Almazo was held at ur Lady of Mount Carmel-Saint Benedicta Church in Staten Island, with Cardinal Timothy Dolan presiding over the service. Almazo was killed on Thursday night while heading home from Holy Thursday mass when a car fatally struck her as she crossed Cary Avenue. Almazo, 57, managed to push her 8-year-old grandson, Brian Herrera-Ramirez, out of the way of the SUV. Dolan said he was moved by her selflessness , “Coming home from Holy Thursday mass, I mean the night that Jesus begins his Passion and giving her life for her little grandson. If that’s not Christian witness, if that’s not heroic virtue I don’t know what is .” [ more › ]
