Mo’ Emails, Mo’ Problems: Brian Cashman’s "Stalker" Nightmare Continues

This week, a single mother was arrested and charged with harassing and stalking Yankees general manager Brian Cashman amidst her claims that she had been Cashman’s mistress since last April. Cashman’s life has gotten increasingly messy since then: his wife has filed for divorce , the Post has been trailing him everywhere he goes, and now, emails between him and alleged mistress Louise Neathway have been released , including one which contained an ultrasound picture “proving” Cashman got her pregnant: “What Brian Cashman has done to me is both incomprehensible and unforgivable…I am going to the press and informaing [sic] them of the preganacy [sic] and the abortion. And everything else.” [ more › ]

More iPhone Robbers Thwarted With App, City Eases Grip On Shiny Boxes

An iPhone-wielding cop used his Find My iPhone app to track down a thief in Midtown in under 30 minutes on Thursday. After a cashier at Tuci Italia was robbed of her phone around 7 p.m., officer Robert Garland, who the Times describes as “an avid Apple consumer—he and his wife own iPhones, iPads and Macintosh computers,” put her Apple ID into his Find My iPhone app and saw the victim’s phone was a few blocks away. “I told her when I walked in, ‘I’m going to find your iPhone,’ ” Garland says, in what will surely be a line in a Liam Neeson movie next year. Chris Christie: Obama Is "A Very Dangerous Politician"

Oprah Winfrey has been trying to attract viewers to her new OWN show, Oprah’s Next Chapter , and perhaps this weekend’s politics-heavy episode will do the trick? The former talk show host with well-documented weight issues sat down with notoriously rotund New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for a discussion of everything from President Obama (“as good a politician as I’ve ever seen”) to how he knew his wife was the one (she suggested they go steal some doughnuts) that airs Sunday night and they even talked about being the butt of fat jokes on national TV! Bloomberg Lays Salsa And Cheesecake On The Line For Giants/Packers Bet

Although Mayor Bloomberg is too shy to say which NY team he supports more ( unlike NJ Gov. Chris Christie ), he’s perfectly fine with making bets over playoff games. To that end, Bloomberg made a friendly wager with Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt over this Sunday’s NFC Divisional game between the Giants and Packers. “The Giants are playing best when it matters most, and I know they’re going to keep it up on Sunday,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “I have a feeling that Victor Cruz will be dancing in the end zone and the Giants will be putting the Packers’ Super Bowl dreams to rest just like they did four years ago. And our salsa and cheesecake will be staying right here in Brooklyn.” [ more › ]

Scandals: Five Luxurious Houses With Famously Unseemly Backstories
Scandals: Five Luxurious Houses With Famously Unseemly Backstories

Photo: 1stDibs The Farralone Estate in Chatsworth, Calif., which was featured as a House of the Day last month, is chock full of celebrity history. Frank Sinatra once sublet the place from its original owner, Chase Manhattan Bank heiress Dora Hutchinson, and Hutchinson entertained the likes of Ava Gardner, Lucille Ball, Judy Garland and Vicente Minnelli here. The most gripping, and most scandalous, episode in the house’s history is an alleged tryst between Marilyn Monroe and John F. Kennedy. Last month, we couldn’t be sure if it were true or not, but 1stDibs has the location narrowed down to the one-bedroom guest house (above) that enjoys use of its own private pool. The sleek little cottage is like a miniature version of the 10,000-foot-main house designed by Pereira & Luckman. This massive mansion, known as Clarendon Court, was the scene of Claus von Bulow’s alleged attack on his wife, Sunny. Mrs. von Bulow ended up in a permanent coma, and Claus was later acquitted of any wrongdoing, but the spectre of guilt still hangs over this place. The spectre of taxes also appears to have been doing a number on the current owners, who don’t seem to have much left over to furnish this seaside palace. That should all change if this house sells for anything close to its $15.8M asking price, down from $17.8M in October 2010. Click here to view the full photogallery. ↑ Back to the more romantic side of things, this suburban Chicago mansion was once the love shack of abdicated British monarch Edward, Duke of Windsor and the twice-divorced socialite Wallis Simpson. In 1941, tragedy again struck the sprawling brick manse as its widower owner, Charles Schweppe, shot himself here. Afterwards, the place wallowed in disrepair before being salvaged by a couple who were later foreclosed upon, this 33,000-square-foot estate is listed for $12M. ↑ While the previous two estates have been sitting on the market for ages now, a couple of other scandalous pads have been snapped up in short order. This one, the famous Dominique Strauss-Kahn townhouse in Manhattan—where the disgraced and later acquitted DSK holed up during the run-up to trial—either leased or sold about two weeks ago. The price was $50K per month or $12.5M, which means someone got a mightily expensive Christmas gift this year. Click the image above to view the full photogallery. ↑ Before Mr. Bernie Madoff came along and dominated the genre, the Tyco scandal was set to be the financial trial of the century. The ringleader of this merry band of fraudsters, Tyco chief Dennis Kozlowski, spent millions doing up this seacoast New Hampshire estate in fine nouveau style. Then, when the exec was forced to sell, the next owners came in, tore it all out, and did it all again. Looking for a quick sale, they sent the palatial mansion to auction in 2010, where it sold for $4.1M. · Midcentury Manse with Many, Many Boldface Names Attached [Curbed National] · Farralone Estate [1stDibs] · 626 Bellevue Ave [Libby Kirwin] · Spooky House on a Storied Easy Street [Curbed National] · This Lakefront Mock Brit Once Hosted the Duke of Windsor [Curbed National] · Dominique Strauss-Kahn’s Tribeca House Now Just $12.5M [Curbed NY] · 153 Franklin Street [Streeteasy] · Tyco Crook’s Revamped Palace On Auction Block Today [Curbed National]

Alleged UWS Wife Strangler Sued For Wife Strangling

The estranged husband of an Upper West Side wealth manager who was found strangled to death on New Year’s Eve 2009 has never been formally charged in her death—but he has now been hit with a wrongful-death suit by her estate . Roderick Covlin , a former trader who founded the U.S. Backgammon Federation, has been accused in the suit of murdering Shele Danishefsky Covlin. Public Administrator Ethel Griffin, who handles estate complications, alleges Covlin “intentionally, deliberately, willfully, wantonly, maliciously, brutally and without provocation or just cause did strangle, choke, strike, injure, assault, abuse, beat and murder” his wife. NJ Man Allegedly Volunteered At Catholic School To Videotape Boys Showering

A man who was arrested for allegedly planting a hidden camera to videotape boys showering at a New Jersey Catholic high school faces some serious charges , but as you can see from his mug shot, he’s got nothing to worry about: There isn’t a jury in the land that could look at that innocent face and dashing hair and believe that Patrick Lott is a guy who planted a camera in the showers to watch boys showering on his home computer. Just look at that salt-and-pepper goatee! Surely Lott was just sifting through locker room surveillance footage in an attempt to catch an elusive towel thief. [ more › ]
