Justice Dept.: Apple, Publishers Colluded On e-Book Prices

A bookworm is eating at Apple. Today the Justice Department filed a civil antitrust lawsuit against the iPad-maker and a slew of major book publishers saying that they colluded to raise the price of e-books. Remember when it was Microsoft that was always getting kicked around for this kind of stuff? [ more › ]

On the Market: Inside the Lakefront Home of Masters Winner Bubba Watson
On the Market: Inside the Lakefront Home of Masters Winner Bubba Watson

Click here to view the full photogallery. When it rains, it pours, right? No sooner did Bubba Watson win the 2012 Masters Golf Tournament did his North Carolina home come on the market—and judging from listing, the guy who needed no formal training to dominate a major golf championship needs a little extra help exposing for a proper photo. According to Zillow Blog, Watson and his wife, Angie, who have been renting a place in Orlando after adopting their son, bought the four-bedroom property for $1.1M in 2009, the year before his first PGA win. Built in 1988, the 3,400-square-foot house sits above High Rock Lake in the small city of Lexington (not far from the Lexington Golf Club, of course) and is, according to the brokerbabble, “beyond custom.” The property includes a heated saltwater pool and hot tub; a boathouse, dock, and covered boat storage; an aluminum floating pier; and an outdoor kitchen with all the trappings. Interesting coincidence: the home is listed for $1.499M, a nearly identical figure to what Watson took home in Masters earnings ($1.44M). It’s also worth mentioning that if it’s the home of a golf champ you’re after, Phil Mickelson is trying to unload his place, too. · Big Days for Bubba Watson: Adopts Son, Wins Masters, Lists Home for Sale [Zillow Blog] · 178 Foxglove Lane, Lexington, N.C. Empty Mansions: The Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev—you know…

The Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev —you know him as the guy who bought the $100M Palm Beach mansion from Donald Trump and later spent $88M on the penthouse at NYC’s 15 Central Park West—is in the throes of a messy divorce. That has left his two legendarily expensive properties vacant. According to the New York Times, “The Manhattan apartment, previously owned by the wife of the former Citigroup chairman Sanford I. Weill, stands empty with nary a lamp in it.” [NYT]

On the Market: Andy Rooney’s Connecticut Family Home Hits the Market

Click here to view the full photogallery. The notoriously loose-tongued 60 Minutes broadcaster Andy Rooney raised his family in Rowayton, a wealthy section of Norwalk on Connecticut’s Gold Coast. Now the 2,400-square-foot four-bedroom that he and his wife, Marguerite, bought in 1950 is on the market for the first time since Rooney’s November death, the Wall Street Journal reports. Of course the listing, asking $749,500, doesn’t shy away from its famous former owner: “JUST WHAT YOU WOULD EXPECT ANDY’S HOME TO BE,” it shouts, “LARGE ROOMS, HIGH CEILINGS, FULL OF NOOKS AND CRANNIES.” (Because Rooney liked to play hide-and-seek?) There’s also a kitchen fireplace and a woodworking shop down below. Despite the obvious updates needed there appear to be some nice bones, but surely Rooney, ever the ranter, would offer the lion’s share of acerbic bon mots about the place if he were still alive today. · Andy Rooney’s Rowayton, Connecticut Home Goes on the Market [WSJ] · 254 Rowayton Ave., Rowayton, Conn. House of the Day: Former Cafe Now New Hampshire’s Most Elaborate Penthouse

Have a nomination for a jaw-dropping listing that would make a mighty fine House of the Day? Get thee to the tipline and send us your suggestions. We’d love to see what you’ve got. Click here to view the full photogallery. Photos: Nashua Video Tours Location: Manchester, N.H. Price: $12,500 per month The Skinny: When the High Five restaurant, located atop one of Manchester, N.H.’s tallest buildings, closed in 1997, a determined—and perhaps a little deranged—former CEO converted the space into a 12,000-square-foot private residence. The four-bedroom, five-bathroom glassy aerie took plenty of time and effort to get into this extremely customized state, including the use of a crane, on three separate occasions, to hoist building materials, bamboo trees, and furnishings to the 17th floor. The custom bar, constructed of poplar sheathed in bronze leaf, weighs more than a ton and was also craned into position. What’s unclear, despite all the effort poured into this project by the CEO and his wife, is whether they actually owned the space or were simply leasing it, as the rest of the building houses 171 rental apartments. Either way, the penthouse has returned to the leasing market with the sky-high asking rent of $12,500 per month. · 555 Canal Street [Zillow] · Living the High Life [New Hampshire Home Magazine]

Photo via Instagram It’s T minus 15 days Domino magazine hits newsstands in its reincarnated version: a series of single-issue special editions entitled Domino Quick Fixes. Reps from Condé Nast have been tight-lipped about details so far, but the guys behind the magazine’s official Twitter handle released a peek at a Hans Wegner Wishbone chair on set at one of the photoshoots. (So yes, it seems the new Domino will feature newly produced content in addition to whatever’s being repurposed from the original magazine.)
